Change to Credit Card Acceptance in Foreign Countries
To our members:
Effective October 1, 2007, CUETS-issued Mastercard® credit card transactions will no longer be accepted in the following countries: Iran, Myanmar (Burma), North Korea, Sudan and Cuba.
Due to political situations internationally, which are subject to change, the direction of the corporation to which our card issuer, CUETS Financial Ltd., belongs is to not accept transactions from these specific countries.
This is a corporate requirement which we recently became aware of through the current acquisition process by CUETS Financial Ltd. This information has been immediately shared with credit unions after learning of the situation, and now we are working to inform you, our members. We recognize the notice period is much shorter that what you have come to expect from Westoba Credit Union, and from CUETS. Unfortunately, it could not be avoided and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
This situation is by no means unique to CUETS Financial Ltd. There are other financial institutions and corporations worldwide that are not processing transactions in these countries.
Your Mastercard® credit card is accepted at more than 28 million locations worldwide, but there are a few places where it is not. When planning trips outside Canada, please be advised that transactions made in Iran, Myanmar (Burma), North Korea, Sudan, and Cuba will be declined. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
