In 2009, Westoba Credit Union made it's first corporate goal regarding the protection of the environment. Although many environmental initiatives have been taking place at Westoba for many years, the following is our first corporate goal that solidifies our commitment to rejuvenating our environment.

This goal reads as follows:
Westoba Credit Union Ltd. will continue to be aware of the affect of our operations on the environment and will encourage our staff, our business partners, and our members to look for ways to be more environmentally responsible.

With this goal in mind, we would like to share the environmental initiatives and efforts that are made at Westoba each and every day.

Credit Union-Wide Activities:
All credit union staff have been encouraged to print double-sided pages for required documents, and to refrain from printing unnecessary items.
Every branch location recycles paper and consumer items and have done so for many years.
Inter-Branch and Inter-Department Memos are circulated via electronic mail to save paper.
All staff are encouraged to power-down computers and other electronic machines whenever possible, including on lunch breaks and after hours.
Westoba Wardrobe Items are donated and re-used when they are no longer appropriate to be worn by staff members.
Staff are encouraged to turn out Branch and Office lighting when the space is not in use.
Used Printer Cartridges are recycled instead of being put out with the trash.
Staff are encouraged to recycle extra printer pages and bottoms of sheets to create scratch pads.
Training initiatives are designed to minimize the amount of travel required for training in order to reduce our carbon footprint. In addition, all required staff travel is encouraged to be by carpool.

Member-Focused Activities:
Our Quarterly Member Newsletters are printed on paper with Recycled Content.
Westoba Members are encouraged to forgo monthly paper statements if not necessary, and instead use Internet and Phone Banking to monitor accounts.

Branch-Specific Activities:
Brandon Branches took part in Community Clean-Up initiatives in 2009. Branches donated staff time towards tidying up the areas around our four Brandon branches, picking up trash and reporting any necessary city maintenance for the overall beautification of our city.
La Riviere Branch Staff located a source who would bind paper extras into scratch pads for branch use.

Corporate Office Activities:
As it was built, our new Corporate Office building was equipped with all of the following energy-saving technology: Motion Sensor Lighting, Dual Flush Toilets, Time Schedule Thermostats to adjust the temperature in off hours to save energy.
Electronic Waste (such as out-of-service computers, or dated technology equipment)  is being disposed of in appropriate manners that minimize landfill waste and allow for potential re-use of any appropriate parts.
